'Panga' is a film that honours the endless hours of work that mothers put behind their families and at the same time urges them to never give up on their dreams and to take that second chance. It not only forms an important voice at a time when so many women drop out of the workforce, it is also an extremely well-crafted film. The humor and emotionally charged moments are deliciously balanced and the outcome is motivating and exhilarating. This ode to motherhood and chasing one’s dreams is a must watch.

Panga is refreshing. It’s a story that could be just as effective and inspiring if it were set just about anywhere. And it works for drafting relatable moments that offer a subtle yet distinct shift in sensibilities. For one, we have a father in
this film who volunteers to join the Mommy WhatsApp group, aside from taking on the remaining duties as her proxy. And we also have a son who opts for a white lie, only to ensure that his mother’s celebratory mood isn’t dampened.

Panga isn't much different from the other sports dramas we have seen before. It has the same histrionics films of such nature are known for- Parental conflict, sacrifices, heroic montages, training sequences, and ultimate triumph. But despite all the ingredients, the film is fueled by sharp writing by Tiwari and Nikhil Mehrotra, boisterous dialogues and above all, the impossibility of not to root for the protagonist. Because even sometimes when we know the result, we can't wait to see what'll happen!

'Panga', in its entirety, is an ode to women -- a movie made by a woman, with a woman at its centre, and largely, for women who have selflessly given up on their passion and career for the love of their family. They do not complain, but may be it's time -- to not complain, but to capture the motif and work towards a second chance. To take a well-deserved "panga" with life and societal norms. Watch 'Panga' for Ashwini Iyer Tiwari's brilliance, another superlative performance by Kangana Ranaut, Jassie Gill's endearing smile, Richa Chadha's spark, and just because you should. And all you ladies out there, if life gives you a second chance, go take the 'panga'. YOU ARE WORTH IT.

In the end Panga is an endearing and inspiring tale of a woman's attempt to reclaim her identity in a world that is content to relegate her as simply a wife and a mother. And for most women clearly that's not enough. Watch Panga if you enjoy slice-of-life movies with a dash of everyday humour thrown in. Who knows there may be a Jaya waiting to regain her glory days in some of you! And Panga could well be the nudge that many require to shake off their complacency and rediscover their true identity.

The post dinner strolls she takes with her husband, the smiley faces she slips in her son's dabba, the absence of jaggery in mom-made ladoos, the carrying on of tradition by reprimanding your kid using the exact same phrase as her mother, the lightening up of her face on learning her son wants to take part in a sport's day race, the excitement of knowing your mother saw your game on a good day at any age more precious than panga this.

On the whole, Panga is a hit. It has started terribly slow at many places but collections will definitely pick up due to fantastic word of mouth. Women will simply adore the film. It deserves to be exempted from tax not just by the state governments but also by the Central government because the film is a genuine shot in the arm for the women empowerment movement.

Some will argue that Panga is too sanitized and optimistic. The actual struggle of a mother picking up a career again is much harder. Of course it is. But for now, I’ll take the warmth and hope that this film offers. I think you should too.

Kangana Ranaut is extraordinary as a mother who gets a second chance to fulfil her kabaddi dream in Panga. This is a film about unconditional love and the true meaning of family that's dressed up to look like a sports-movie.
