A mother's instinct versus the dark forces – #Maa blends emotions, horror, and mythology seamlessly... #Kajol delivers a knockout act... Watch it!
2. Hindustan Times -
Rating Score -> 2.5/5
Maa has all the right ingredients, from maternal rage to a haunted village. But the makers throw all of it into a cauldron and forget to turn the heat up. It wants to say something powerful about a mother pulling out all stops for her children, but sadly the beating heart is buried underneath the conventional storyline.
3. News 18 -
Rating Score -> 3/5
The concept and story have substance, but the film lacked largely because of its style of storytelling. Besides, the film also has a lot of stereotypes that could have been done without. Besides the exaggeration that the palace had a almost 30-feet tall Kali maa’s stone carved statue, the way people from Chandrapur talk in the film, everything seems to be a cliche that all the Bengalis would be running away from.
4. First Post -
Rating Score -> 3.5/5
Maa is a gripping mythological horror, which will keep you glued to the big screen.

Based on the tale of Goddess Kali and the demon Raktabeej, Kajol's Maa had all the ingredients for a solid outing, but unfortunately missed the mark courtesy of sub-par execution
6. Times Now -
Rating Score -> 4/5
Kajol's Maa is a multi-genre experience that carefully blends mythology, horror, action and emotion with finesse. A compelling watch that holds the power to move you emotionally!

Rating Score -> 2.5/5
As a cinephile, it's disheartening to realise that we are still stuck in that limbo where horror either goes full melodrama or dabbles in myth without fully committing to the psychological weight of it. However, just like in 'Maa', Kajol, the saviour, manages to salvage the film too, but only just about.
8. Indian Express -
Rating Score -> 2/5
Kajol’s well-intentioned film keeps first half loose, second half muddled. Smashing patriarchy is a task that films need to keep taking up, and Kajol has the heft to get the job done.
9. NDTV -
Rating Score -> 2/5
The themes that Maa tackles are untethered to the here and now, but it isn't the sort of mythological gender war drama that it aspires to be. It is way too unhinged to be earth-shatteringly terrifying. It flies in multiple directions and never finds a steady orbit. Only for Kajol fans.
10. Rediff -
Rating Score -> 2.5/5
What keeps the momentum going is Kajol’s fully committed performance that elevates this generic material to a surprising degree of watchability.
11. India TV -
Rating Score -> 3.5/5
'Maa' is a pure cinematic experience that one should benefit from. The film is crips and well connected. While the makers have made room for the audience to connect the dots, they, on the other end, have done their job very well. For those who love watching pure horror films, this one is definitely for you
12. The Hindu -
Rating Score -> n/a
Kajol cuts to the chase in this ho-hum horror drama. Low on chills and thrills, director Vishal Furia’s ‘Chhorii’ template pays diminishing returns in Bengal
