Laal Singh Chaddha First Day Box Office Collection, It's Low

Laal Singh Chaddha performed poorly on First Day (Thursday) at the box office. The film which was touted as one of the biggest releases of the year has just sneaked into the double-digit mark. In fact, till the end of the afternoon, it was looking as if it may even struggle to touch the double-digit score for the day.

Laal Singh Chaddha collected 11.5 crore nett approx on day 1. Actuals have come slightly higher than our estimates mentioned yesterday. Film reported an average occupancy of around 25% for the first day. Occupancy on the first day was pretty low considering it was a partial holiday across India.

Laal Singh Chaddha is getting mixed reviews from both critics and audiences. That is not a good sign. There may be some drop coming in on Friday (day 2) as it is mostly a working day across India. If ground-level reports are on the positive side then we might see a good jump from Saturday onwards.

LSC will enjoy the best occupancy on Sunday and Monday (Independence Day). But if we go by the trend so far, there is a big possibility that the film will see a big drop from Tuesday onwards. Hence, it is of utmost importance that LSC does as much possible business as possible till the end of Monday.

Another big concern is that film is carrying heavy costs. Hence, a good theatrical recovery is a must for the film. LSC is easily the weakest opener ever for Aamir Khan. Considering Aamir Khan is releasing his film after a long time, LSC should have taken a much better opening. A minimum of 15-17 crore nett business for day 1 would have been par. The film has fallen short of the par score by 4-6 crores at least on the opening day itself. Let's see how thing unfolds on day 2.

  3. Bollywood is now going into a downward spiral. Hereafter, I don’t see many producer taking risk with 200 Cr budget. Most of the films will be on controlled budget so as to ease the recovery which means that there won’t be too many event films from Bollywood. #BoycottBollywood is indeed hurting Bollywood badly now.
