Overall Word of Mouth (Critics) - Negative!

1. Indian Express -

Rating Score -> 1/5
Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham’s film sinks to a new low. Disha Patani, Tara Sutaria, Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham-starrer has a disjointed plot and pedestrian performances, which makes Ek Villain look like a better film.

2. Rediff -

Rating Score -> 0.5/5
Alternating between a stalker's fantasy and romanticising the psychopath, Ek Villain Returns falls back on the popularity of the Galliyan track to boost its appeal. It doesn't help nor does the serious lack of conviction in the cast.

"Darr aur pyaar logon se buri cheezein karwata hai, toh main kaun hoon? Tera daar ya tera pyaar?" Disha asks John, but it is actually Arjun who answers this question towards the end of the film.

The final frontier of foolishness is breached in the climax – I won’t spoil it for you, but it pushes the film firmly into the so-bad-that-it’s-good territory.

5. India.com -

Rating Score -> 1/5
In a country, where women are victims of acid attacks just for rejecting a guy; Ek Villain Returns makes things problematic to a whole different level. Even legendary filmmakers have had missteps, and it would’ve been perfectly fine merely for Mohit Suri to simply make a hilariously bad movie, rather than make such a toxically bad one. I’m going with 1 out of 5 stars.

Ek Villain Returns is a very ordinary fare and not at all a worthy successor to Ek Villain. Its music (‘Teri galiyaan’ and ‘Dil’ songs) is its biggest plus point. The youth may like the film for its edginess and music but that will not be enough for it to emerge victorious at the box-office.

At 2 hours and 8 minutes, the film isn’t really long. But the absurdity and the ridiculousness in the plot just made the audience in the auditorium so bored that many didn’t even wait for the last scene to get completed and started walking to the nearest exit.

8. NDTV -

Rating Score -> 1/5
Ek Villain Returns- a sequel to a film made eight years ago - would be dismissed as a confused, yawn-inducing concoction but for the hammer blows that it rains on our sanity. Not one word it utters, nor one scene that it crafts, makes any sense. It perpetuates dangerous notions about love and its repercussions.

Rating Score -> 2.5/5
Ek Villain Returns dishes out plenty of twists and turns but doesn’t make you emotionally cheer for any of the characters or the story, though you wish the situation was different.

As expected, the film celebrates the notion of one-sided love. For centuries, lovers have expressed their  adhoora par poora pyar (incomplete yet realised love) through poetry, but here Suri normalises violence for spurned lovers. According to him, it doesn’t take two to complete a love story. An inspiring thought, but here the spiritual successor to Mahesh Bhatt is treading on a superficial terrain.

Cutting short a long story, by the end of it all, you only wish it would have been better if this villain didn't return at all. I mean who would have imagined that a script like this in today's time would make its predecessor look a much better film. Ek Villain Returns is now showing at theatres. Watch it only and only if you can withstand the so-called massy cinema that expects you to keep your brain back at home.
