I wasn't too thrilled by the extreme turn of events of A Terror Live's conclusion, which diluted the impact of individual tragedy for mass scale destruction. With Dhamaka in its title, the remake was hardly going to be any different.

Dhamaka is thrilling enough to keep you engaged but you don't feel invested in its characters emotionally. Lack of restraint, nuances in writing and execution does more harm than good. Dhamaka may not be explosive enough to change the narrative but, it is engaging. It also dares to remind the media why they are called the fourth pillar of democracy.

Dhamaka isn’t a bad film – I don’t think Ram is capable of making one. But neither does it match his previous work – the brilliant Neerja and the series Aarya. Dhamaka is passable, which coming from Ram, feels like he was slumming it.

Even the worst TV channels in real life with their shrieking guests and poisonous debates have more drama than the goings-on in this fictional Bharosa 24/7. Hard to believe that this comes from Ram Madhvani, whose ‘Neerja’ and ‘Aarya’ worked so well with creating believable characters, interesting scenarios, while keeping us on the edge. Here’s a man teetering on the edge of sanity, and here’s another who is confronting his demons, and their lives are hanging by a thread. And we don’t buy a thing.

Dhamaka is pacy, and it may seem that there is never a dull moment. But it is does go overboard with some of the scenes. Those between Arjun and Ankita hardly look plausible. Do employees behave with their bosses the way Arjun does with his? I suppose writers and directors do not care as long as they attract footfalls or eyeballs.

'Dhamaka', it is safe to say, fails to keep the audiences engrossed for its run time of over 100 minutes. It won’t be cheesy to say that it begins with a bang, but ends with a whimper.

Rating Score -> 3.5/5
As for Kartik 2.0 version, it'll be safe to say that he dominates the screen and owns every frame. Kartik's Arjun Pathak is a refreshing break from his already established romantic, chocolate boy image and his nuanced performance, a sure shot heart-stealer. Verdict: In Ram Madhvani's 'Dhamaka', Kartik Aaryan delivers a dhamakedar performance.

Ram Madhvani's 'Dhamaka' cruises in a countdown way. With Kartik Aaryan in the lead, the film builds up an exciting, jam-packed drama that tells a vital story of a struggling common man, journalism, politics, and how a couple of fateful calls in the midst of an ordinary day turn out to be a scary affair in Mumbai.

What we like about Dhamaka is how the makers have perfectly shot the entire film in just one set-up in 10 days. It is definitely an edge-of-the-seat thriller but it lacks because of some stretched scenes. The scenes where the caller repeatedly makes the same demand could have been cut short for a better experience. Had the film been released in cinemas, it would have been an exciting experience for the audiences.

Even though Dhamaka isn't a film high on music but it's track Kya Khoya Paaya during the climax, pierces through your heart and stays with you for long, as it beautifully sums up the entire film. If you like thrillers, Dhamaka won't disappoint you and Kartik Aaryan, definitely impresses with his never-seen-before avatar and a convincing performance.

11. NDTV -

Rating Score -> 2.5/5
Ram Madhvani, a filmmaker of proven talent who has a film like Neerja and a web series like Aarya behind him, uses Dhamaka to mount a frontal and absolutely tenable attack on what most news channels dish out in a fact-free world in the name of journalism. The darts, however, are wayward at times and do not hit the target with the required power and precision.
