Many of our vivid readers have put up a question and the question is, "Will Salman Khan do a hattrick of biggest grossers at the box office this year with either Ek Tha Tiger or Dabangg 2. It is to be noted that both Dabangg and Bodyguard previous releases of Salman Khan were the biggest grossers of 2010 and 2011 respectively. And if he again achieve this landmark with either Ek Tha Tiger or Dabangg 2 it will be a Hattrick (Thrice Successive) at the box office. Let's do the case study.
Let's consider the biggest grossers from 1990-2011 -
Note - Biggest Grosser of 2012 is presently held by Rowdy Rathore (Lifetime of 135-140 cr nett expected). And if it stays the biggest grosser of 2012, it will be first for Akshay Kumar.
From seeing the above list it is noted that if we consider the biggest grosser yearwise from 1990 onwards, Salman Khan achieved this feat 7 times, Shahrukh Khan 5 times, Aamir Khan 4 times, Hrithik Roshan 3 times, Sunny Deol 2 times, Anil Kapoor 2 times & Govinda 1 time.
Moreover, this feat of consecutive biggest grossers is achieved for a maximum of 2 years only by Aamir Khan with (Ghajini & 3 Idiots) and also Salman Khan with (Dabangg & Bodyguard). So, from above we came to conclusion that no present generation actors have achieved Hattrick of Biggest Grossers ever since 1990s. Also, it is to be noticed that Akshay Kumar, whose Rowdy Rathore is the biggest grosser of 2012 till now, has never achieve this feat ever in his lifetime. Such is the competition. Moreover, what is more interesting, this year all big stars have at least one release pending at the Box Office except Hrithik Roshan whose Agneepath was the single release, earlier this year.
So, is the competition easy for Salman Khan or there is some real test ahead.
Directly coming to the point, this year fierce battle is on the cards among stars. Shahrukh Khan is back to his favourite Yash Raj Banners. Aamir Khan is having his solo release with Talaash after 3 years wait. His last release as lead actor was 3 Idiots, which is still the biggest grosser of all time. Also, Akshay Kumar who is ruling 2012 for the time being with Rowdy Rathore and has releases in Joker and Khiladi 786 before the end of the year. Another dark horse of the year 2012 might be some one Mr. Ajay Devgn who has slowly but steadily making his marks at the Box Office and has monster hits in Golmaal 3 and Singham in last two years. He might put up a few challenges to Salman with his upcoming major releases in Bol Bachchan and Son of Sardaar.
Another debate might one find is Aamir Khan had consecutive biggest grossers in 2008 (Ghajini) and 2009 (3 Idiots) and after that never had a full fledged role (Dhobi Ghat - Supporting Role, Delhi Belly - Guest Appearance only) and Talaash is his next release, where he will be seen in a lead role. That's true, but here we are talking of a Hattrick and if Aamir Khan's Talaash becomes the biggest grosser of 2012, then of course he can claim this title as it will be a Hatrrick for him, but may not be in order of years though.
Whatever be the result at the end of the year 2012, if Salman again achieve this feat in 2012, it will be an unique in this generation of actors and no one more than him deserves this title. Will the darling of masses and present undisputed king of box office will attain the Hattrick of biggest grossers or order will change with either Aamir or Shahrukh? Or there will be a new entry with Akshay or Ajay or someone else except from this elite category? Only time will tell, till then relish this titanic battle on cards this year.
