Overall Word of Mouth (Critics) - Positive

The two-part series could have been explored as a grand web series of sorts, something similar to Game of Thrones, or even as a three-part film series, allowing the characters to be fleshed out fully and letting people pick their favourites. Overall, when Ponniyin Selvan was announced, it appeared like a great door-opener for those who weren’t aware of the five-part novel. However, the two-part series concludes as a great cinematic experience that fell short on storytelling.

2. Mirchi 9 -

Rating Score -> 2.75/5
Ponniyin Selvan 2 holds attention despite all the issues to those who are already connected to the characters and the world. The scale, ambition and casting make the movie a one-time watch with the right expectations set in from the start.

3. Indian Express -

Rating Score -> 4/5
Mani Ratnam finally takes some creative liberty and it works. Ponniyin Selvan 2 will have polarizing views. While the fans of the book might be disappointed with some major deviations from the book, the ace director understands the form won't let him be entirely faithful to the novel.

4. NDTV -

Rating Score -> 4/5
An Epic That Looks Primed To Stand The Test Of Time. Vikram's powerful presence serving as a firm anchor for a few of the most important sequences. The others in the cast, notably Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi and Jayam Ravi, are also on the ball.

5. Times of India -

Rating Score -> 3.5/5
But the more underwhelming moment is the climax. Even in Kalki's book, we get a rather low-key ending, with one too many twists, but here, while the writers (Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan and Kumaravel) sensibly give us a more agreeable twist, they fail to pack a punch with the speech that Arulmozhi delivers in the end while making the supreme sacrifice that makes him the titular hero of this sprawling epic.

Mani Ratnam dishes out a satisfying sequel. ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ takes creative liberties from Kalki’s material, but the performances and cinematic touches keep you invested

7. Hindustan Times -

In PS 2, it’s Aishwarya Rai as Nandini and Vikram as Aditya Karikalan who really shine in parts they play so convincingly. Given this is Aishwarya Rai’s big comeback to Tamil cinema after many years, she’s unbelievably good and delivers what’s unarguably a career-best performance.

8. India Today -

Rating Score -> 3/5
Mani Ratnam delivers worthy adaptation, Karthi, Vikram and Aishwarya are a hit. Part 2 is a little different from the novel, yet tastefully done. Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan deliver brilliant performances, says our review.

9. Rediff -

Rating Score -> 3.5/5
Everybody knows he's a master of sublime, but Mani Ratnam's brilliance in escalating drama delivers a goosebumps-inducing impact when bolstered by A R Rahman's musical gravitas

10. Komal Nahta -

Ponniyin Selvan-2 is a lovely entertainer and will do well in Hindi. Its Tamil version will prove to be a hit.
