Overall Word of Mouth (Critics) - Positive!

1. Times of India -

Rating Score -> 4/5
Runway 34 should be experienced for the way it depicts one of the scariest, and a near-disastrous aviation mishap in recent times with engaging characters, thrill and drama. Although there have been films shot in large and small chunks inside aircrafts, this one plays wonderfully on the audience’s psyche showing them exactly what may just go wrong if the weather doesn’t support a flight’s landing and when decisions have to be made running against a clock. Overall, the film doesn’t spend too much time taxiing on the runway; it takes off quickly and keeps you hooked till you disembark from the theatre’s aisles.

The film is full of special-effects, brilliant performances and moments, which are relatable and could make you teary eyed. Ajay Devgn is sublime and impressive with his direction and acting in the film.

3. DNA -

Rating Score -> 3.5/5
With Runway 34, Ajay Devgn returns as director and presents a unique theme which is a fantastic cinematic experience. The impact compounds with scintillating performances by Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh, Boman Irani and Ajay Devgn himself.

Rating Score -> 3/5
Ajay Devgn's Consistent Performance Powers The Film To A Smooth Landing. Rakul Preet Singh gives a solid account of herself. As for Amitabh Bachchan and other actors, the path is riddled with air pockets caused by blurry writing.

5. Indian Express -

Rating Score -> 2.5/5
Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan film crash-lands in a dreary court room. Ajay Devgn manages to deliver a somewhat effective pre interval portion despite its inelegant, underlined bits, but the film plummets as the curse of second half hit.

Ajay nails his Vikrant Khanna, and stands tall as the director - third time lucky, we'd say, after the hopeless U, Me Aur Hum and the torturous Shivaay. Amitabh Bachchan is convincing as Narayan Vedant, but certainly has undertones of Narayan Shankar (Mohabbatein) and Adv. Lateef Zaidi (Chehre). Rakul Preet Singh as Vikrant's co-pilot, Tanya Albuquerque, adds drama but lacks meat. Akansha Singh plays Samaira, Vikrant's supportive wife, easily forgettable.

7. Hindustan Times -

Runway 34 is around two hours and 30 minutes long but it never appeared stretched, for the story (written by Sandeep Kewlani and Aamil Keeyan Khan) is extremely crisp and well narrated. Complementing it is Aseem Bajaj's spectacular cinematography and score by Amar Mohile that adds to the intensity of the story and never digresses.

Rating Score -> 2.5/5
One sees glimpses of their Major Saab equation when Devgn's big fat male ego gets squashed by Big B's bigger, fatter male ego. But Runway 34 is much too sketchily written to build anything major on that. True events alone aren't enough to tell compelling stories. They need intelligence, imagination and coolness that stems from character, not cigarette butts.

9. India TV -

Rating Score -> 2.5/5
Enjoy first half of Ajay Devgn-Amitabh Bachchan's film, run away in the second one. The two halves of Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan starrer Runway 34 are essentially two different films. The first part is aerial thriller detailing how Captain Vikrant (Ajay Devgn) glided the plane onto frigid runway of Trivandrum saving lives. After the intermission, investigation takes over and edgy thriller turns into banal courtroom drama.

10. Komal Nahta -

Rating Score -> n/a
On the whole, Runway 34 is a class-appealing film. Looking to its heavy cost (a huge amount of money has been spent on computer graphics, among other things), the film will not be able to do commensurate business at the ticket windows. Flop.

11. Anupama Chopra -

Rating Score -> n/a
Both halves of this film take place in enclosed spaces. This isn’t a constraint in the first. Ajay uses every inch of the cockpit and plane to heighten the drama but in the second, the writing trips the storytelling. There are a few clever lines and mic-drop moments but largely the momentum deflates.
