Unlock 1 is started in India and as per the guidelines it looks like cinema halls are all set to open by the end of July or in the month of August. It means no big films will release prior to Independence Day weekend now.

After the declaration of Unlock 1 plans, there is no doubt that makers are re-thinking the new release dates for their respective upcoming movies.

We will also try to predict when the upcoming biggies will release and which are the biggies that might release in 2020. We are considering the scenario that cinema halls will open by the last week of July or by the first week of August 2020.

Among all the biggies Sooryavanshi, 83, Coolie No.1, and Laxmmi Bomb will eye for release first.

As per our assumption, Sooryavanshi might aim for the 2nd October or Diwali 2020 release. We think that the 15th August release looks tough now for them. If theatre somehow opens by the end of July, then the makers of Sooryavanshi might release their film on the Independence Day weekend.

Laxmmi Bomb, if released in theatres, will release after a minimum of four weeks of Sooryavanshi. Also, makers can't wait till Christmas as it is a long time and the film is already ready for release. As things are moving ahead, the film may release in some normal weekend. However, if Sooryvanshi releases on Independence Day weekend or on Gandhi Jayanti (2nd October), then makers might be tempted to release the film on Gandhi Jayanti or Dussehra or Diwali 2020. Now the question is whether the makers have the patience of waiting till Diwali?

83 is another biggie of the year. This film may actually aim for a normal weekend release. Chances are slim that it will release on Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali or Christmas, as then it may have to face a box office clash with other biggies. It may also aim for the Dussehra slot as that may be available. Again 83 is one of the most anticipated movies of 2020 and will definitely aim for the best possible release date. Don't be surprised if makers aim for a festive or national holiday release.

Coolie No.1 should be the third big release once the cinema hall opens. It will most probably come after Sooryavanshi and 83. Coolie No.1 will look for Dussehra or Diwali weekend release. The way things are going ahead post-COVID, there is a slim chance that Coolie No.1 will aim to clash with another biggie. If Dussehra or Diwali slot is filled then they might prepone or postpone by 1 or 2 weeks or so. There is a good chance that Coolie No.1 and Laxmmi Bomb will release very close to each other. We are definitely not expecting a clash.

If the shooting of Radhe commences in some time of June or July or even August then makers of the film will aim for Diwali or Christmas 2020 release. If not then Radhe will find it tough to have a release in 2020. We heard still a minimum of 10 days of filming is left. And there is post-production work to be done.

Maidaan shooting will only resume in October-November now. That means the chances of film releasing in 2020 is very slim. Maidaan may aim for Republic Day weekend in 2021 or later.

Shamshera is also more or less ready for release. Makers might aim for some time in October or November or December 2020 release. Again it might come on a normal weekend as Festive or holiday weekend might be booked.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar will be another film that will eye normal weekend release. This film might release in some time of October or November or December 2020. Again it might not release on a big-ticket day as then it may have to face a clash.

The shooting of Bhuj: The Pride of India is still left. Hence, the scenario is somewhat similar to Radhe. Hence, if filming and post-production work of the film is completed on time then it may get released on Diwali or Christmas 2020. Makers might even think of the New Year period of even Republic Day 2021 weekend.

Brahmastra's chances of releasing in 2020 are very less. Major post-production work is still left. The film may release in the first quarter of 2021 or later.

Prithiviraj and Laal Singh Chaddha are most likely to get postponed to 2021. A good part of the filming of both films is still left. Jersey may also miss the 2020 cut as a significant part of filming is still left.

In short,

Sooryavanshi - 2nd October or Diwali 2020. Very slim chance of releasing on 14th August now.

83 - May come after two weeks of Sooryavanshi. Will eye for a normal weekend or Dussehra weekend.

Coolie No.1 - Will eye Dussehra or Diwali 2020 or date close to these two festive times.

Radhe - Diwali or Christmas 2020, depending on when filming begins.

Maidaan - Republic Day 2021 weekend or later date.

Shamshera - November or December 2020.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar - November or December 2020.

Bhuj: The Pride of India - Diwali or Christmas 2020 or New Year period, depending on when filming begins.

Brahmastra - May release in the first quarter of 2021 or later.

Films that are most certainly pushed to 2021 are Laal Singh Chaddha, Prithviraj, and Jersey.
