Thappad had a decent start at the box office on opening Friday (1st day). The film did start slowly but picked up pace post noon shows. The film did decent business in the metros whereas in the rest of India it is poor to below average. It is a metro film and will have to ride on that power.
Thappad has got positive response from the critics. Initial audience word of mouth is mixed to positive. Real word of mouth will be known by the end of 1st Monday.
Thappad has collected 3.05 crore net approx on day one. The film will at least need a 50% growth on Saturday to post a respectable total for the opening weekend. Anything above 60% will be fantastic. Ideally, it needs a 15 crore net for the weekend. A 13-14 crore net will also be ok but not below that.
Thappad will also need a solid hold on 1st Monday. The film can't experience a drop in the region of 40% or more. A 30-35% drop will be a good hold. However, before that film needs to do well on Saturday and Sunday.
