Overall Word of Mouth (Critics) - Negative!

1. Khaleej Times -

Rating Score -> 2.5/5
Love Aaj Kal serves as a superficial testimony to modern day romance  - if this is what modern love looks and feels like, no thanks, we want none of it. The movie is rated 15-plus  in the UAE and many of the intimate scenes between the lead couple have been chopped off leading to a slightly disjointed screenplay.

Rating Score -> 1.5/5
If you walked into Love Aaj Kal as an Imtiaz Ali fan, despite the debacle that Jab Harry Met Sejal was, you will walk out broken, even more disappointed. And perhaps with the realisation that Imtiaz, the man with the untamable hair and the insatiable appetite for delving deep into the human psyche, has ebbed.

Love Aaj Kal is destined to end Kartik Aaryan's golden run while also having Sara Ali Khan her first outright failure, beside continuing Imitiaz Ali's poor form. And yes, I am already predicting the film's fate because that's how bad it end up being, particularly the second half.

Rating Score -> 3/5
‘Love Aaj Kal’ sets off to celebrate complex characters and dysfunctional relationships, with the universal emotion of love at its core. It creates some emotional moments along the way, but doesn’t quite leave you spellbound.

5. Bollywood Bubble -

Rating Score -> 1.5/5
Considering the immense fan following Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan have, the film will open up to packed theatres, but the noir presentation will not get into the minds of audiences and soon, the film will start having negative word-of-mouth, which might not allow the movie to survive post the first Monday. For the sake of my love for Imtiaz Ali films, I would love that this prediction of mine goes totally wrong. Let’s wait and watch.

6. Masala -

Rating Score -> 2/5
Sara is over the top and her character arc is rather confused. Kartik plays the 90s kid well, getting the shyness and awkwardness spot on. It is nice to see the actor step out of his comfort zone and take on a new role and he does it well. But it is Randeep’s deep voice and eyes that you moon over. In a confused film, he makes the most sense. At the end of it all, when Veer and Zoe finally make some sense of what they want, we are beyond caring. Sorry, this is not the ‘Modern Love’ lesson we needed this V-day. A re-run of Geet and Aditya would have been just fine!

7. Gulf News -

Rating Score -> 2/5
Be warned, the movie moves at a languid pace and takes time to come to a logical conclusion. Just like a typical mercurial relationship, this film hits both high and low notes. While Khan shines in the role of a self-centred career woman who’s perennially confused about love and life, the movie doesn’t come together as a whole unit. Forget neat endings, even their process of discovering adulting is tedious to watch.

Rating Score -> 1.5/5
A poorly conceived reboot that's overlong, overdramatic and overdone, Love Aaj Kal simply cannot differentiate between pyaar and parody.
