Marjaavaan attempts to check all the boxes for an emotional action rollercoaster, but its dated execution doesn’t quite make the kill.
2. Khaleej Times -
Rating Score -> 1.5/5
'Marjaavan' falls several shades short of a proper Bollywood masala entertainer that it aspires to in spite of having all the ingredients for it. The weak and cliched plotline along with heavy-duty dialogues that should have impressed but end up sounding hollow is only part of the problem.
3. Gulf News -
Rating Score -> 1.5/5
The movie plays out in a tedious, non-linear pattern where the past and the present life of an embattled Raghu play out. The flashback as to why Raghu snuffs the life of his soul mate and whether he extracts revenge for being forced into manslaughter are the high points.

Marjaavaan has nothing we can take away, except a fleeting obsession we spotted in Vishnu when he realised his sworn enemy, Raghu, has no interest in continuing the enmity, despite several provocations. At that moment, Vishnu’s life was left purpose-less, for what do you do when your opponent drops his weapon and walks away? If only the makers had spent more time on developing this speck of story, rather than those elaborate, yet ineffective song-and-dance sequences.

Marjaavaan is loud, overcooked and overdone. Turgid and tedious it just passes you by, without you caring for anyone or anything on the big screen.

Don’t put your life at risk for just one film. Who knows if it’s named Marjaavaan on purpose!

Marjaavaan could perhaps be used as a new drinking game, where you raise your glass whenever a melodramatic or a rhyming one-liner is delivered. You will get drunk in the first half-hour itself. Guaranteed.

The dialogues are perhaps the only ‘original’ aspect of the film; while everything else -- from the screenplay to the songs, are a retread. Riteish as the dwarf don seems to be in on the joke. While Sidharth is earnest even with ketchup-y blood covering most of his face, and Tara refusing to ham it up, Riteish is the only one who seems to know the sort of schlock he is a part of. And after the over 2-hour long viewing, so do we.

Nothing can salvage the Marjaavaan mess -- not religious symbols tattooed on Malhotra's knuckles, the two-and-a-half hours of hysterically hamming people, the boisterous background score, the stale imagination, the burly giants, the phony rain, the cheap blood, the microwave romance, the laboured hostility, the incessant babbling on mohabbat and ibadat, not Arjit Singh yowling in a loop.

Marjaavaan is fun in parts and is an over the top cringe-fest overall. Riteish Deshmukh and Sidharth Malhotra complement each other and it's fun to see them go at each other but how I wish the movie had done them justice.

MARJAAVAAN has nothing to die for in its plotline and attitude to pay tribute to the escapist action packed masala’s since 70’s. but, it has certainly something to go for the diehard follower of Bollywood escapist action masala lovers who just love such happenings on screen and cannot live without it. An extra for the flashy reminder of Mr. Bachchan as Sikander and Sunny Paaji as Karan from JEET.

Marjaavaan is a tedious piece of cinema that makes you hate everything you once loved about the '90s. All you can take away from the film is some horrible writing, Sidharth carrying one expression throughout and extremely silly and insensitive puns about dwarfism.

On the whole, Marjaavaan is a routine action-love story meant mainly for the masses but since Sidharth Malhotra doesn’t have the image of an action hero, it will have limitations in commercial terms. At the box-office, it will do fair business.

It’s a testosterone overdrive, which becomes tedious very quickly. The script is shoddy and at the center of it is Sidharth Malhotra trying to convince us that he can be an old-school hero. You can see his sincerity but he can’t summon up the swagger.

ReplyDeleteDoston humesha critics galat nhi hote. Matlab ye kahna k har movie k liye critics galat h. Except Comedy movie baki movies main criticism karne k liye bhoot se point hote h. Or comedy movie hoti hi brainless or illogical hen to unme comedy k alawa apko kuch nhi milega. Or ek pure masala movie ki bhi yahi lines hoti h. But action ko story ki jarurat hoti h. Jasiey agar koi kisi ko Maar raha h to Aap janna chahoge kya Majra h. Comedy kahi se suri hoke kahin bhi khatam kar sakte h. Leken action emotional or drama type ki movies k liye achi story or exicution hona chaiye. Mujhe nhi pata movie kasiey hi but honestly jab trailer aaya tha to mujhe iska picturisation Bgrade movie k jasiey laga tha. Ye nhi chalegi feel Aa raha tha. Critics ka pata nhi but janta ko wo maja nhi aayega. Ek villain ek achi movie thi. Ritesh looks good but shidhart not up to the mark.Baki janta faisla karegi.
