Overall Word of Mouth (Critics) - Extremely Positive!

‘Bala’ is a sweet-natured film that celebrates self-acceptance and loving oneself with warts and moles. Khurrana is wonderfully flawed, yet you root for him as he learns to accept himself — baldness and all. And that’s the bald truth.

Overall, Bala is a feel-good, highly entertaining movie that will definitely make you laugh out loud, though we are not sure if the message of self-acceptance and being comfortable in your own skin is something that comes through convincingly. But one thing is guaranteed - you will walk out of the theatre with a feeling of empathy for those who are inflicted with this condition and a smile on your face.

Go watch it for Ayushmann and Bhumi and also the very hilarious Yami Gautam who plays a Tik-Tok star. The reference to these new pop culture phenomenon in the film is really cute. Then there are other moments like the time when Ayushmann beautifully mimics Shah Rukh Khan. Check out Bala, it’s in theatres right now, and let us know what you think.

Rating Score -> 4/5
Director Amar Kaushik tries to drive home the message about how our society mocks those who are different. The film tends to get preachy in the second half with the message about societal prejudices hammered down repeatedly. This takes away from the film’s fun quotient, but the story continues to engage the viewer, mostly due to Ayushmann’s stellar performance.

‘Bala’ is a complete family entertainer. Your 2 hours will be well spent and maybe you will pick up on a lesson or two. I am going with 3.5 stars. The movie will definitely be a hit on the box-office. To say that it will be a huge money spinner? Well, that will be slightly pushing it.

Watch it for another delectable performance by Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar. You'll have lots to laugh at and with. And some to ponder about too. I'm going with 3 and a half stars.

Overall, 'Bala' is one crowd pleasing, feel good movie that starts off with a laugh, and ends on a heartwarming note. It is sometimes crude, sometimes predictable, but the film has a likable cast and delivers some poignant messages about self-love, acceptance, companionship and of course, bald is beautiful.

Bala may have asked all of us to cheerfully accept our imperfections and love ourselves, but will the mindsets of the society ever change? Can a film really make a difference? Maybe not! So how about we just enjoy the film and move on to the next one sevens days later!

Apart from the numerous digs at the precarious position balding young men find themselves in, the film takes a jab at those desperate TikTokers hoping to crack the popularity theatre of social media. It’s a world where the number of ‘likes’ determine your self-worth and ‘faking it’ is the new ‘making it’. Or as someone says in this film, ‘asli’ and ‘asliyat’ don’t always overlap.

Bala is not just a celebration of Bollywood but also its critique, which questions the stereotypes set by our cinema about beauty. The film exudes a feel-good warmth you were waiting for, for so long. For those who dare to compare it with Ujda Chaman, one request: please do not. Just don’t do it. The Abhishek Pathak film is no competition to this artistic creation by Amar Kaushik.

Bala is human, he is flawed; he is one of us. He makes us smile. So does this delicious line, Kaushik throwing in a politically acute curveball, just like he did in Stree — ‘poora Uttar Pradesh chal raha hai bhagwaan bharose, aur bhi chal jayega’. Or words to that effect. Mazaa aa gaya guru.

While the film is packed with powerful performances from the lead- Ayushmann, Bhumi & Yami. The star is its writing! Filled with punches, one-liners and impactful dialogues that are sure to leave you both chuckling and thinking hard about society's perspective on various day to day things.

On the whole, Bala is a sureshot hit. It has abundant entertainment value and a lovely message — and that’s a fine combination.

Bala is an aspiring stand-up comic. He entertains people by mimicking Bollywood stars, especially Shah Rukh Khan. This film is like his act – fun in places, flat in others and not enough sticks.

'Bala' is just like its characters -- flawsome. Watch it for some introspection, and of course, for the pleasure of seeing Ayushmann Khurrana do what he does best -- being extraordinarily ordinary -- and in (in all likeliness) his seventh consecutive hit.

Bala could have been a crackerjack of a film but allows the novelty of its premise to wear out too easily. Bala, Kanpur’s “edible young man” (sic), certainly gets your attention, but does not manage to sweep you off your feet.

Every balding man has a funny (or embarrassing) anecdote or two, but when you pit it against other discrimination and insecurities, as the film does, hair loss pales in comparison. If you wish to make a film rooted in intersections, you cannot abandon other perspectives in the service of just one. That’s more like hiding behind a combover than accepting your baldness.
