Click this link for detailsWhat struck me as remarkable about the film were the leading ladies and their cheery aplomb and agency in empowering themselves even in the worst of circumstances. These ‘dadis’ did not feel like ‘bechari abla naris’ (damsels in distress) in the least and kudos to the writer and director for underscoring this aspect.

Click this link for detailsThe performances by the cast somewhat redeem a film that raises a significant issue but struggles to address it effectively. Saand Ki Aankh talks of women empowerment, and aims at celebrating womanhood. It needed more assured writing and direction and, perhaps, a twist of intelligent humour would have helped, too.

Click this link for detailsNonetheless, 'Saand Ki Aankh' is a compelling feminist statement -- detailing how the women need to stand up for their own selves, and for others to live the life they envision for themselves. Prakashi and Chandro Tomar did not let patriarchy come in their way of living a life they dreamt of -- even at the age of 60 -- and THAT deserves a dekko despite the little flaws that come with presenting a cine feature with A-listers on the silver screen.

Click this link for detailsThe film drives home the point of women empowerment, celebrates the bonhomie among women wholeheartedly, and attempts at every point to hit the bull’s eye.

Click this link for detailsWe give Saand Ki Aankh 4 stars for its amazing story that is sure to motivate all – regardless of age or gender – to always strive for the betterment of oneself and family. Do catch this film in cinemas this weekend.

Click this link for detailsA few minor grievances aside, Saand Ki Aankh is an invigorating female-centric film and a fine biopic, accentuated by indelible dialogues, powerful scenes, really good performances by Taapsee Pannu and Prakash Jha, and an exemplary one by Bhumi Pednekar. It will leave you in awe of the struggles and accomplishments of two remarkable women, and maybe even with a lump in your throat. I'm going with 4 out of 5 stars

Click this link for detailsSAAND KI AANKH is an achievement at various levels. A cinema that entertains and enlightens as well. The towering message of women empowerment that helps the movie to rise above its flaws. A mainstream cinema that is pure desi and is capable of making statements and asking questions on the prevalent sexist orthodoxy since ages that demonstrates the poignancy of women and their lives trapped in such system and what determination can do and lead an example.

Click this link for detailsThere’s no doubt that it’s Pannu and Pednekar’s show all the way. While their sturdy shoulders can carry the burden, the demands of the character — especially in terms of physicality — seemed to overwhelm them. It isn’t easy to look 60 at 30 and the strain shows. But they still manage to make their performances stick.

Click this link for detailsThe story of these geriatric grannies who refuse to be determined by their circumstances, age or social barriers, and dare to stray beyond their defined perimeter to break through lends an inspiring narrative. In this regard, Saand Ki Aankh touches a necessary nerve.

Click this link for detailsYes! The film is a family entertainer that as an audience you will come to love. Saand Ki Aankh is witty, funny, emotional, gripping and will leave you feeling empowered - be it a man or a woman. So, take your daughters, your mothers and even the men in your family! The Tomar family will make you laugh with them, cry with them. You revel in their success and you'd get teary eyed at their failures.

Click this link for detailsTo be honest, I hadn't liked the trailer of Saand Ki Aankh much and wasn't quite excited about it but, it is, without a doubt, one of the best films of the year. The movie is a perfect Diwali watch. So, just go in with your family and enjoy this inspiring entertainer.

Click this link for detailsSaand Ki Aankh, as a film, doesn't exactly hit the bulls' eye, but it certainly leaves you with a feeling of doing so. Some glaring flaws may not put the movie in the same league as a Chak De India or an Iqbal. But rest assured, by the time the end credits show the real Shooter Daadis, you would be clapping hard for them!

Click this link for detailsSaand Ki Aankh is a pleasant family watch for the Diwali weekend. Take your main women along. If possible, add your khadoos taus and uncles of your family to that list, to show them the mirror in an indirect way.

Rating Score -> 2/5
Click this link for detailsIf your tolerance for such movies is high, if you think there's a particular sort of joy to be discovered in revisiting stereotypes you have already formed in your head, then dipping into Saand Ki Aankh wouldn't hurt you.
15. The Week -
Rating Score -> 3/5
Click this link for detailsThe blemishes are in the parts when the film tries to be too appealing for the masses. It uses the tropes of commercial cinema and plays to the gallery, like the dadis dancing at a royal party, or the treachery of Rattan Singh becoming too unbelievable towards the end—making it funnier or tragic than it would have been may be in real life. But for most part, Saand Ki Aankh hits the bulls eye.

ReplyDeleteNobody is keen on watching 2 gun-slinging grannies (with very poor prosthetic make-up).
