Speaking of the performances of the film, Akshay Kumar was in his element, same goes for Riteish Deshmukh but were let down by dialogues like "Iss ne gender ka tender nhi bhara" Meanwhile the leading ladies of the film Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde and Kriti Kharbanda were not given enough space to deliver much, but they do justice to the parts given to them, especially Pooja, who had the best punches in the film.”

Probably this much criticism is not justified. When did the makers pretend otherwise? But the well of jokes dries after a while and the same gags keep repeating. Had there not been Akhay Kumar, it would have become a really painful watch. He has barely managed to stop Housefull 4 from becoming another Tees Maar Khan.

Sajid Khan was directing Housefull 4 initially but had to be removed after #MeToo allegations surfaced against him. Farhad Samji took the baton post that, took the film to completion. We're going with 1 star out of 5, out of respect for Farhad Samji who had the most difficult task of all. Good news is that we've survived. You have the option to not test that.

The spurt in comedies crowding the multiplexes could be pinned on the economic slump, but the writing here points at a more graver concern — the creative recession gripping the Hindi film industry. This is a film where pigeons routinely empty their bowels on human heads and a man who always jumbles up the pronouns is accused of not having filled his "gender ka tender." Even brainless comedies have managed better.

I wasn't expecting anything great as that would have been a sin in itself, all I aspired for is a good time. But given the fate of Bollywood over the last few years, particularly during the Diwali period, I erred more than the entire team of this reincarnation comedy. Come to think of it- Ra. One, Son Of Sardaar, Krrish 3, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Thugs Of Hindostan, and now Housefull 4. All these titles are grand in visuals, bland in everything else. In one scene, Sharad Kelkar says, "History always repeats itself." How could I forget?

HOUSEFULL 4 – The reincarnation of the ‘chichora’ Akshay Kumar we never wanted is a snore bore. It’s like being with a group of friends who are having crackling fun with each other doing absurd bizarre things, while you stand aside and keep scratching your head unless you become bald but they refuse to stop. (unsolicited advice : mat thakao or thako Akshay Sir.. apne hi baache (image) ki ‘jaan’ loge kya)

Can't really say that Housefull 4, despite being the biggest film in the franchise, is the nadir of the series. There's isn't much to begin with there. What astounds me is that such films still get made with big names attached, such humour is passed off as funny by a set of writers. Ah, well, the positive aspect to see here, is that Housefull 4 makes you yearn to see Akshay Kumar back in his jingoistic films. At least, we can get a Pad Man or a Mission Mangal once in a while.

The film has been shot well and looks magnificent. Be it the palaces or the jungles, Housefull 4 is unapologetically glossy. The action sequences are well choreographed and pack quite a punch. The songs fit within the narrative. But if there was a song or two less and some ruthless editing was done, Housefull 4 could have been a tighter film.
