POWERFUL. Not the typical romantic saga. Unconventional, but powerful. Shahid is outstanding, career-best act. Kiara is lovely. Director Sandeep is an incredible storyteller. Overstretched runtime is a deterrent. #KabirSinghReview

While Kabir Singh is a welcome change from stereotypical love stories, this kind of love affair needs some getting used to. If you can generally accept the fact that human beings can be flawed (sometimes deeply flawed), you will be able to stomach this rebellious story of love with extreme madness, often lacking rationale and reason. Through his protagonist, Sandeep bets all his cards on his leading man, making sure you either love him or hate him, but you can’t ignore him.

Like its original, Kabir Singh is an unabashed, bold depiction of a damaged man's journey to self-destruction. The purists may be shocked with the toxic masculinity and sexism on display. But if we accept the characters with all their inherent flaws, then Kabir Singh is a dark but fascinating take on love, with a brilliant show from Shahid Kapoor.

At 2 hours 52 minutes, Kabir Singh works only because of our leading man, Shahid Kapoor. He breathes life into the character of Kabir Singh and showcases a range of emotions from passion, hatred and rage bordering on lunacy. Kabir Singh will definitely click with the youngsters.

‘Kabir Singh’ is truly the survival of the despicable. Their collective action — when they break up — is a crash course on self-flagellation. It’s also a much-needed departure from the usual syrupy Bollywood love stories that showcase grand gestures. Put a ring on ‘Kabir Sigh’ if you are in the mood for watching a love story that’s wonderfully wicked and warped.

6. Masala -

Rating Score -> 3/5
Kabir Singh is a good watch mainly because of how well the main character is balanced by Shahid Kapoor. Vanga doesn’t lose sight of the journey and doesn’t forget that amidst all the existentialist dilemmas and song placements, he’s telling a modern tale of a toxic male which cannot be justified but has to be told in an entertaining, compelling way. And that it does!

There are so many shots of cigarette smoking in Kabir Singh I’m surprised they didn’t rope in Akshay Kumar for a supporting role, to keep reminding the film’s leading man to replace cigarettes with sanitary napkins. Substance abuse is the least toxic thing about this sickening film, the most misogynistic Indian film in a long time. This is a film about a bully, an abuser of women, an alcoholic surgeon, an insensitive lout, and a foulmouthed hothead — and that’s just the so-called hero.

8. Republic -

Rating Score -> 2.5/5
The tale stays afloat with Shahid Kapoor being the sole driving force of this 2 hour 25 minutes long film. Kiara Advani on the other hand, is not too bad given the fact that she is left to use silence as her only tool for performance. With such limited scope, she never really gets a chance to shine. The remake stays true to the original. However, in the Telugu blockbuster, the chemistry between the lead actors was better, which gave the viewer a sense of realism.

This quite literal adaptation of Arjun Reddy, gives us yet another booze-addled Devdas who broods by inflicting hurt on everyone around, including himself. But he’s also a sex addict with “an impeccable academic record and anger management issues”. Ticked off at the slightest provocation, he leaves many bloody-nosed. Cumulatively, this diabolical mix would surely make for a keen and effective serial killer. But this film has a different path for its scruffy star.

Shahid Kapoor is outstanding in the film. He is, undoubtedly, one of the most underrated actors in Bollywood. This story is quite an unconventional romance, which deviates from the regular stories offered by Bollywood. Kabir Singh isn't glorified like the regular Bollywood hero. Love him, hate him but you can't ignore him. It's definitely not a film you can watch with your family. Your partner or friends are the perfect company to watch Kabir Singh with. Kabir Singh will make you laugh, cry and love, and do it all with a lot of passion.

On the whole, Kabir Singh is a surefire hit. The script is supremely powerful, the performances are splendid, and the narration is terrific. This one will definitely join the Rs. 100-crore club and it has very bright chances of crossing the Rs. 175-crore mark and, maybe, even joining the Rs. 200-crore club.

If you can believe in Kabir Singh's passionate yet discomforting love and its outfall, Shahid Kapoor's yet another disgruntled angry young man avatar, sharp editing, brilliant outstanding background score will make for an impressive one time watch.

While the ending seems a bit hurried, it is Kapoor who shines throughout. Vanga displays an engaging, emotionally resonant piece of filmmaking. 'Kabir Singh' brings romance back on the Hindi screen - intense, passionate and heart wrenching. The film is a stirring account with brilliant moments, bravura performances, strong emotional quotient and addictive music, this one's an absolute treat for the romantics.

Reddy’s direction is impressive. He knows his material well and keeps it on a tight leash, never skipping a beat. Let’s face it, the love story genre is well loved but it is also one of the toughest to crack. Reddy despite a brooding despairing protagonist takes things many notches higher and makes it one helluva trippy ride.

  7. Some of these critics are simply biased and doesn't know how to review films. Glad to see much more positive reviews. The real critics are always the Aam Janta.
