John Abraham’s next is “1911”, based on an iconic football match in Indian History

John Abraham, who loves the sport of Football passionately, and also the owner of the Indian Super League football team- NorthEast United FC, will do a film on one of India’s most historic matches which dates back to 1911. The film is titled ‘1911’.

This iconic match was between the prestigious Mohun Bagan club against East Yorkshire Regiment in the finals. After 15 minutes in the second half, the visitors silenced the crowd by scoring first.  Then, 10 minutes before the final whistle, the Indian captain scored.

John has joined hands with Nikkhil Advani and Bhushan Kumar for this iconic project.

Here’s what Nikkhil Advani’s thought on being handed this project by John. He tweets:

The director also adds,

“I’ve been wanting to make a film set in Kolkata, talking about its people, culture and heritage. This film is even better as it encompass India and its history”

He adds,

“It gives me pleasure to be associated with a film which tells the story of the emergence of India’s most iconic club and an inspiring moment in our history,”

John believes the ‘football is the new cricket today’. He says:

“I believe football is the new cricket today and this film will make the sport palatable to the masses. What makes 1911 special is that it is not just about the players or even the game, it’s also about India’s freedom struggle. It wasn’t just a sporting victory, the match broke the myth that the British were unbeatable. And as they turned from friendly traders to despotic rulers, a wave of nationalism spread across the country. It’s been over seven decades since India became a free nation, but if we position it right, we’ll have the country behind us again. Like with Parmanu, the idea is to educate in an entertaining way, so viewers walk out saying, ‘Wow, I didn’t know this!’

Nikkhil confirms that John will play captain Shibdas Bhaduri nad also is reportedly looking for big names actors who can play football.

The film is slated to be on floors on November 2019 and will be shot in Kolkata over the next three months, targeting a mid-2020 release.
