The Real Story behind John Abraham's 'Batla House'!

Ever wondered who is the man behind John Abraham is playing the role in Batla House? What is the inspiration behind the film? What’s the story?

John is playing the character of a true hero, Mohan Chand Sharma, an Indian Police Inspector who served in the Delhi Police, Special Cell and was killed during the Batla House encounter in Delhi. He had won 9 gallantry medals by the President of India. He was awarded the Highest Gallantry Medal ‘Ashoka Chakra’ on 26 January 2009.

The Batla Encounter that occurred on 19 September 2008 is the story behind the film. Here’s a brief portrayal of the incident-

The Delhi Police team got to know from their sources that Indian Mujahideen commander Atif Amin and his comrades of taking shelter in a flat at L-18, Batla House, area of Jamia Nagar, in the morning of 19 September 2008. These suspected terrorists were linked with the five synchronized Delhi bombings on 13 September 2008.

The Delhi Police team was led by Mohan Chand Sharma. When they reached the flat, on the second floor a heavy exchange of fire occurred at around 10 30am. Sharma was caught in the firing and was severely badgered that ultimately took his life. After this exchange of fire, two suspected terrorist, Atif Amin and Mohammad Sajid were killed, two other suspects Mohammad Saif and Zeeshan were arrested, but one managed to escape.

The aftermath of this incident also became a hot topic. Accusations were put up against the Delhi Police by various politicians, media and civil society outfits of carrying out a fake encounter. There was this conspiracy of an inter-departmental rivalry that caused the death of the heroic, Inspector M C Sharma. The encounter led to arrest of a number of local people, leading to widespread allegations and protests by political parties, civil society groups, activists especially teachers and students of the Jamia Millia Islamia University.

A plea was filed by an NGO, ‘Act Now For Harmony and Democracy’.  The Delhi High Court asked the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to enquire into the police version of the encounter, and submit its report in complete within two months. Soon, NHRC after its investigations gave a clean chit to Delhi Police in the case.

Looks like this will be thrilling action film based on a heroic true story. Batla House will be released on 15th August, 2019, directed by Nikkhil Advani and produced by Bhushan Kumar, John Abraham and Nikkhil Advani.
