Holiday (2014) Movie Review.

Holiday - A Soldier is Never Off Duty is official remake of Tamil Blockbuster 'Thuppakki.' Holiday stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. Akshay has returned to big screen after Boss which was released last year. His fans are eagerly waiting for this flick to release in theaters to see their idol in silver screen. Sonakshi plays love interest of Akshay in the film. Director A.R. Murugadoss returns to Bollywood after a 6 long year hiatus after super successful 'Ghajini.' So, will Akshay be able to deliver a Box Office Hit in Holiday? Let's start the movie review.
Captain Virat Bakshi (Akshay) of Indian Army returns home (Mumbai) on Holiday. There his parents take him to see Sahiba (Sonakshi) for marriage. However Virat dislikes Sahiba in his first meeting. But when he realises that Sahiba is a Boxer and a bold girl, he says 'Yes' for marriage. But now Sahiba says 'No' to Virat. In between this love story, Captain Bakshi due to some circumstances tackles terrorism that is about to take Mumbai by storm. He on his own and with his team shoulder responsibility to erase the sleeper cell who is planning serial blast in Mumbai City. Then the cat mouse fight begins between Captain Virat Bakshi and his teams against the deadly terrorist group.

Will Virat be able to save Mumbai City from this terrorist group? Or sleeper cell will succeed in their ferocious deadly plan? Will Virat be able to persuade Sahiba for marriage? Will love blossom between them? This is the rest of story of Holiday.

There are two stories running parallely in the film. First is Virat-Sahiba love story. Other is sleeper cell's plan to do serial blast in Mumbai City. On the other hand, Virat aim to save the city and destroy the sleeper cell as a whole.

Despite there being a love story in backdrop it hardly comes as halt to the main part of the story. Two songs 'Tu Hi Toh Hai' and 'Ashq Na Ho' at the last in the film are nice. Rest song can be easily chopped off from the film as such film doesn't need that and these songs come as speed breaker in the movie. Overall film length could have been trimmed by 10-15 minutes.

Coming to acting. Akshay Kumar has delivered one of his finest performance till date with Holiday. His acting is top notch and actions are outstanding. Akki does full justice to the role of an India Armyman. His die-hard fan will adore him once again after seeing him in the role of Captain Virat Bakshi. Even his critics will love him after this film for sure. Sonakshi looks cute and beautiful in the film. Her performance is first rated in whatever scenes she have in the film. Her Boxer avatar looks absolutely fitting to the core. Sumeet Raghavan is laughable and plays the side kick part well to Akshay. Interestingly Freddy Daruwala has a big role as the lead antagonist in the film. He is strictly ok and need to sharpen his acting skills in future films if he needs a big run in Bollywood. Govinda has special appearance in the film. He is simply hilarious whenever he comes on screen and is a riot.

Coming to the film. Holiday is a full on masala entertainer with a difference. It has a nice message also. Audiences will laugh and cry along with the life of an Army-man. Yes, film is not as realistic as other army films do, but is a feel good movie with a good heart.

Holiday may start slow at box office as film is released on normal weekend. Plus, film misses great chart buster music which pulls weekend audiences in number. But with a good storyline and word of mouth film should pick up through the weekend and should sustain well after that. Yes, it has enough legs to run long at box office and be a big 'HIT in coming days.'

Ratings - 4/5. Definitely Go for it!
