Judwaa 2 Movie Review. Paisa Vasool, Light-Hearted Entertainer. Guest Post

Remember those good days when comedy films directed by David Dhawan were used to be rage? Lets be honest, we still love watching his films over and over again on television and never get bored seeing them. Sadly, Bollywood has stopped making such quality commercially entertaining films over the last decade or so. Apart from Rohit Shetty, I don't see any other director who is even trying hands on this genre. So firstly, I would like to thank producer Sajid Nadiadwala who thought of rebooting one of the most popular comedy films from 90s Judwaa which has gained cult status over the years. He knows what the audience wants to see. Judwaa, released 20 years ago, has been watched by most of the Indian film loving audience, so it was a big challenge in front of him and David Dhawan to make a reboot to such a widely appreciated film and take the legacy of Salman Khan starrer forward but they took the risk and it paid off quite brilliantly. Some would say that Judwaa 2 is a remake to Judwaa but no, it isn't. Basic plot is similar and the makers have re-created some of the iconic scenes from the original but apart from these similarities, they have given this film a new treatment to make it look fresh. Film is set in today's time, shot on a huge scale, situations are different, scenes are different, dialogues are different. It's bigger and funnier, though not as serious as the original Judwaa.

Acting:
Varun Dhawan is possibly the best thing about Judwaa 2. This is his film from start till end. He has the charm, sweetness and naughtiness like Salman. Varun has shown what he's capable off in terms of acting and handling the pressure of such a big film on his shoulders. He's lovable as innocent Prem and entertaining as tapori Raja. He acts superbly in the emotional scenes and gives audience plenty of moments to laugh out loud with the way he delivers dialogues. Watch out for his scenes where he mimics Shah Rukh Khan, specially the way he says "Ammi Jaan Kehti Thi" dialogue from Raees repeatedly followed by a funny excuse to get rid of trouble. Then there are scenes where he and his partner in crime Rajpal Yadav makes fun of Akshay Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mahesh Bhatt, Donald Trump, Shikhar Dhawan, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, 3 idiots, DDLJ, Baahubali, Tubelight, Kal Ho Naa Ho, etc. Those are the most hilarious scenes in the film. Jacqueline Fernandez never looked this pretty in a film, ever. It was bit tough for her to fill the shoes of a legendary actress like Karisma Kapoor but she did her part brilliantly. She supported Varun really well. Taapsee Pannu, known for her serious roles, has done a complete opposite to what she's been doing in other films. She looks glamorous and acts well. Salman Khan makes an appearance towards the end of the film and its great to see him sharing screen space with Varun.

Direction and Production:
Judwaa 2 is David Dhawan's 44th film as director and it does remind us of his old films. His direction is great. Production value of this film is huge. One thing I like about Sajid Nadiadwala is how big he makes his film look always. Each and every scene in this film is visually stunning.

Music/Songs:
One of the things that made the original Judwaa special were it's songs. In fact, 'Tan Tana Tan' and 'Oonchi Hai Building' are so popular that they're played on FM channels and music channels on television even after 20 years. Makers have re-created these songs in Judwaa 2 to keep the feel of the original film alive and music videos look great. There are 2 other songs in the film which are beautifully shot and sounds good too.

My Rating: 3.5/5*
Judwaa 2 is an out-n-out paisa vasool, light-hearted entertainer. If you're a fan of 90s style clean Bollywood comedy films, then Judwaa 2 is a must see with your friends and family. Varun Dhawan will join the big ticket actors list with this film.
