Big news which is confirmed yesterday is that big clash between Shah Rukh Khan starrer Imtiaz Ali's next and Akshay Kumar starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is happening for sure. SRK's film is already confirmed few month back via social media and even promoted by SRK's friend, Salman in his twitter handle. Now comes the news that Toilet is slated for release on same day as Imtiaz Next which is rumoured to be named either 'The Ring' or 'Rehnuma.'
So, how clash will have an impact on either of the films. First talk about the release period. Independence Day falls on Tuesday, that means 5 days of extended weekend, film will enjoy. Even Monday will be big as it is pre-Independence period and film generally picks up big from Evening onward. There is no doubt 15 August is one of the biggest single days of the year and single day record are previously broken on this day. Same is expected again this year also, more so because of two big releases.
However, now after the clash, concern is this that, Independence Day falls on 5th day and by then already word of mouth factor will be out. Means, full utilisation of that day is only be achieved when reports are positive for the film.
Now comes the question, whether clash will have an affect on both the films. Yes, it will. No doubt about that. But considering both films pre-release factor, both have got a good release period and might be benefitted by it. They will get much needed publicity because of the so called high profiled clash.
Toilet is a moderate budget film although starring Akshay Kumar. Even if film does decent to good business, because of controlled budget, it may emerge as a HIT. It is too early to make any statement, but if film goes past 80-90 crore nett, it should be a Clean Hit at box office.
However, there is bit concern about SRK Next as it is made on big budget. Ideally it needed around 130-140 crore nett to emerge successful. Still positive news is, it stars SRK in lead and his last film Raees collected over 130 crore nett with a big clash with Kaabil in a much worse release period. That also, with mixed to decent word of mouth.
Hence, no need to worry about all, except film content. Let's hope that both film carries good content and hence, positive word of mouth and emerges as successful films at box office. Storm will definitely arrive at box office this Independence Day Weekend.
