Yesterday official announcement came on big release Padmavati that film is now preponed to 17th November, 2017. Earlier release date was 15 December, 2017. Main reason for this change might be the release on Tiger Zinda Hai in Christmas 2017. So, question comes to mind is whether the change of date is a wise decision? In fact we think it is very wise.
Both TZH and Padmavati are big films. TZH is sequel to Ek Tha Tiger and it stars Salman Khan in lead role. There is no doubt it is easily the biggest film of 2017. Hence, makers of Padmavati might have thought that it is better to come solo in a normal week with few open week run then to just get one week of open run and clash with TZH in festive period.
Earlier in recent past it is seen that many big films have clash at box office in Holiday period. Although they may have got Holiday advantage, but it is of no use as screening is shared. Hence, nowadays it is more fruitful to come in normal week and have a free run of atleast two week to collect bountiful at box office.
Recent example is Dhoni. Film got solo release and opened to 60+ crore in opening weekend. If Dhoni can get such opening, then others can also. Hence, rightfully in today's time with so much clash happening at ticket counters, it is better for bigger films to have 2-3 weeks of solo run in normal week, than have a clash at festive time.
Think makers of Padmavati has done sensible decision. They are getting more than one month of free run till release of TZH, unless some big films comes in between.
