Udta Punjab has taken varied start on Friday (1st day) at box office. In few places start is very good and strong, whereas in others it is strictly average.
From initial reports it is looking like Udta Punjab has taken good start at box office. Film has opened well as samples are received for Morning and Noon shows. Controversy surrounding Censor certificate has helped immensely otherwise opening would have been lower.
Film opened to good 25% occupancy all across India in Morning shows. After that film has picked up big in Noon to record occupancy of around 45%. Northern part is super strong with occupancy reported 55-60% in Noon shows. Whereas rest of India is average in India with occupancy hovering around 30-35%.
However, as film is released in around 2500 screens, even a decent occupancy will ensure big first day collection. We can't expect much growth on Saturday (2nd day) from here on as film is already performing on upper level. Even a decent to good hold will take film to a very respectable first weekend total.
Looking at the opening of the film, it is almost certain to collect in double digit on day one. How much more film can collect after 10 crore that picture will be clear at the end of the day. So, far it is a good start.
