Udta Punjab has run into trouble right now. Film has failed to get censor certificate from CBFC. Censor is not even ready to give 'A' certificate to the film.
Actual reasons are yet to be known. However proper sources suggest film has run into problem because of two issues. First is the abusive language used in the film. And second is drug abuse topic. It is also rumoured that some political party is against screening of the film in theaters as it might have shown Punjab in bad light.
Makers of Udta Punjab have now approached the Film Certificate Appellate Tribunal (FCAT). With only 3 weeks to go for its release, the makers are not ready to compromise on the content and considering the way FCAT has previously certified films (including adult comedies), they decided to approach the Tribunal for the film.
Anurag Shrivastav, CEO of Censor Board stated that the film was further referred to Revising Committee after the differences with Examining Committee, the makers decided to approach the FCAT directly instead and the decision is now in their hands.
Udta Punjab stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh in lead roles. Film is slated to release on June 17.
