Rarely a film nowadays comes in Bollywood which achieve Super Hit status and more importantly makes profit for all associated with it. Airlift is one of those which have been profitable for both makers and distributors.
Airlift budget is approx INR 50 crore [including post release promotion cost].
Amount recovered by Makers - Around INR 40+ crores are recovered by selling India and Overseas theatrical rights. Another nearly INR 20 crores are recovered from Satellite Rights. Plus another INR 5 crore approx is recovered from Music and other rights. Plus there will be additional profits from surplus amount film earns from theatricals. So, makers have already made good profit on table itself before the film released.
Amount Recovered by Distributors - Combined distributor share from India and Overseas is approx INR 80 crores [India - 60 + Overseas - 20]. It is nearly the double the amount of distributor paid for the film. So, Distributors are simply dancing their way to the bank with loads of profits and smile.
Airlift is one of this film whose budget is well controlled and hence such great results have come. Also, film good word of mouth has also helped it immensely. Hope other film makers takes Airlift as reference point and make big budget films sustainable. Overall film has brought smiles for all in trade in start of 2016.
