Bombay Velvet has taken slow start at box office on Friday (1st day) Morning shows. This is very very shocking and surprising as film has A list stars in Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and also debuting Karan Johar. Film is hyped all time big and such opening is very much alarming. What's more film is carrying huge budget and hence, need to open decent to good at least.
Coming to film opening. Bombay Velvet has opened to low 20-25% occupancy in Morning shows specially in multiplexes. Few reports are coming in that shows are cancelled because of low to no turn out for the film. Hope this piece of news is not true and never heard of such things specially for a Ranbir Kapoor starrer ever and also not good news for the makers and distributors.
As for Noon shows update. Film picked up little but not much. Sample reports film has registered occupancy of around 25-30% for Noon shows. No doubt film has picked up from Morning. But the rate at which film is picking up is not good. That means first day collection is now looking sure shot below 10 crore nett mark which is just unthinkable and unacceptable. Such film with such big scale of face value and budget needs an opening of at least 13-14 crore nett and that is bare minimum. Ideally opening of 15-20 crore nett would have been better.
Bombay Velvet is carrying a big budget estimated around 95-100 crore [including P&A]. Film needs to collect at least 110-120 crore nett in India alone to be safe. This is after taking into account that film will recover substantial amount from Satellite rights and hoping that film does reasonably well in Overseas.
Wait for more update of Bombay Velvet through the day.
