Happy New Year has collected a huge 157 crore nett in 1st week at box office. This is absolutely fantastic news for the films, makers and distributors. What good is film is set to get another good run in 2nd week starting with 2nd Friday itself. Film has managed to retain around 55-60% screens for 2nd week across India, which is extremely good news. Film managed to retain around 50% screens in multiplexes, whereas around 60-70% screens in Single Screens as early reports are coming in. New releases like Super Nani and Roar is just not able to challenge HNY as far as screening is concerned. Super Nani is released in limited screens in plexes, whereas Roar will get the lions share of available single screens left out by HNY.
HNY is set to lead the box office fight in 2nd week running. Yes, film has still potential to collect huge at box office. But looking as 1st weekday trends, there might be significant drop in collection on 2nd Friday. Business should however pick up from Night shows of 2nd Friday as weekend is approaching and should register good jump through the 2nd weekend. Film needs at least around 43 crore nett further to touch 200 crore nett or more and for that to happen HNY should trend well from here on. Kick which is the highest grosser of 2014 is still not safe from HNY chase. If later shows excellent trending in 2nd and 3rd week then is still an outside chance to overhaul that. Realistically though it looks tough as if now. Dhoom 3 lifetime collection which is still box office record is now out of sight of HNY right now.
