Many avid readers have asked this question many a times in last few days. Has the makers of Entertainment made the right decision by scheduling their film for theatrical release on 8th August 2014? Whether it should have chosen different release date specially somewhere in September 2014?
First let us clarify what is wrong with Entertainment release date. Film will be coming after two weeks of Kick which was released in month of Ramadan and one week ahead of Singham Returns which releases on 15th August. So, it is somewhat sandwiched between two big films.
Still Entertainment will get free run for one week, which is first good news. Reason mentioned as open week, as Kick 14 days theatrical run will be finished that means majority of audiences who have planned to watch that flick, might have seen the film by then. Plus, Kick screening will be reduced big time by then.
As per early trade report Entertainment is set to get 2800-3000 screens from 8th August, which is wide release, even if that is not record breaking. With Entertainment having an ideal potential to collect 25+ crore nett in Single day, screens should not be an issue. Real issue is film buzz and content. Film buzz is not what it is in internet, social media or electronic media. Film buzz is whether audiences are planning to watch the flick in theater in first weekend or not. Plus, it is the film content which will take its course from 4th day onward.
As far as stardom of Akshay Kumar goes, he is without a doubt big draw at box office. But his star power at this moment is still one edge below the 3 Khans or Hrithik Roshan. However good business of Akshay's last outing Holiday might bring audiences to the theaters.
There is also another problem associating with the film. If film does good business in first week, then there will be issues of screen allocating between Entertainment and Singham Returns. Singham was a big Hit and being a franchise exhibitors are keen on giving that film much more screens for 15th August. But if Entertainment remains rock solid in 1st week, then scenario might change.
As per our assumption for Entertainment first week is very crucial to collect as much as possible to be in safe side. Now a days film success is judged by minimum 100 crore mark barrier for big films and same goes for Entertainment also. Our thought is that Entertainment will run on its merit and if content is good film will do over 100 crore nett business in India. If its opposite, then it will be tough going as Singham Returns await in week time.
