Boss (2013) Movie Review

Before starting the Movie Review of Boss (2013) starring Akshay Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Danny Denzongpa, Shiv Pandit, Aditi Rao Hydari, Johnny Lever, Ronit Roy, have to make a statement. Directly coming to the point, Boss is strictly for those who love and adore typical Bollywood Masala Film with a good story as its base. Those who undermine this genre, can skip it. Wanted in 2009 started the trend of Masala films in Bollywood, followed by Dabangg, Singham, Rowdy Rathore, Chennai Express and rest. Boss is another feather in this camp and carry this tag forward in style.

Boss is a typical melodramatic story which we use to see in 70s and 80s. It is a story about Father-Son Relationship, with lots of Action, Stunts, Songs and Fun-Filled dialogues embedded in it.

Coming to story Satyakant (Mithun) is a School Teacher. He has two sons Surya 'Boss' (Akshay Kumar) and Shiv (Shiv Pandit). Boss in his school days took fight with his school mates who teases his father. During this fight one of his school mate is get killed by Boss, because of which Boss has to go to Children Jail for 3 years. After back from there he again takes fight with his old enemies. Seeing this and getting upset Satyakant ask Boss to leave home forever.

Boss leaves his native and meets Big Boss (Danny). Big Boss who is a Transport King and a Big Don in Haryana takes Boss with him.

15 years later on Shiv, younger brother of Boss moves to Delhi to be with his Mama (Johnny Lever). There he falls in love with Ankita (Aditi Rao Hydari) who is sister of corrupt cop ACP Ayushman (Ronit Roy). When Ayushman knows about the love story, he plans to kill Shiv. Home Minister whose son also loves Ankita, hires Boss to kill Shiv and tells the plan to Ayushman. Will Boss kill his own younger brother Shiv or save him from the hands of Ayushman and Home Minister? Will Shiv and Ankita be able to marry each other? Will Boss able to get his Father's love and warmth back which he is missing for 15 years? Will Boss finally able to kill corrupt Ayushman and Good will win over Bad? This is the rest of the story!

Boss principle tale revolves around Father-Son relationship, which is also the USP of the film. Film has many funny moments and one-liners. Also, films has lots of action sequences with finale being the classic. Songs are also much likeable in the film. Akshay Kumar entry scene will be greeted with lots of cheetis and taalis for sure. There is not much down point in the film any such, except 1-2 songs which are not situational. Overall Boss is a nice rollar coaster ride.

Coming to performance, Akshay Kumar is back to his fluent best and is in full form in the film. His action also reminds us of his Khiladi avatar of 90s. He is hilarious in many scenes, shows his Heroism, makes us cry and also shows his bulging muscles and chest.

Mithun is at his usual best in the role of Akshay Kumar's father. He gives A+ performance. Danny gives an excellent lovable performance in role of Big Boss. He is extremely confident and usual self in the film.

Shiv Pandit tries his best and gives an honest performance. However he looks rookie and rigid in few scenes. Aditi Rao Hydari although has a smaller role, but still gives a first rated performance. She looks Hot in Bikini Scene and she is here to stay in Bollywood. Johnny Lever is hilarious starting with his first scene itself in the film.

Ronit Roy is the Main Villain of the film and carries that role with elan. His gives an excellent performance and his fight in the finale with Akshay is just fantastic. He matches Akshay punch for punch to the core.

Verdict - Boss rides on 70s and 80s Bollywood Masala Film formula. It has many funny scenes and emotional ones. Plus, there are lot of action sequences. Film has ample dose of song also. Plus, it has a beautiful story of a Father-Son relationship. Yes, film has drawbacks, but it is mainly in form of 1 or 2 songs. Rest everything is nice. Finally film is strictly for Typical Bollywood Masala lovers. As for Box Office, Akshay Kumar star power will take ample care of that in initial days. Yes, it has legs to go on long run also. Film should take Big start in North Part of India and Mass dominated Centers. However Multiplex might start slow because of the genre. Overall film should be a Big Hit at box office in coming days.

Ratings - 3.5/5. Go for this 'Boss' and most definitely for all die-hard Khiladi Fans, you will not be disappointed.
