Besharam has somewhat been a great disappointment at Indian Box Office, considering it has collected just around 47.5 crore nett in its extended 5 days opening weekend. Besharam starred Ranbir Kapoor and was directed by Abhinav Kashyap of Dabangg fame. So, there was a lot riding in the film. Plus, Ranbir just recently delivered Blockbuster in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and good things were expected from Besharam also.
As for trade there can't be a bigger setback than Besharam collecting poorly through the weekend. Although film performed exceedingly well on Gandhi Jayanti Holiday, but after that film hovered in 20-30% occupancy all through rest of the days. With a monumental release of 3500+ screens, collections of Besharam excluding the first day can be easily touted as Colossal Disappointment. Even die-hard cynics would have predicted better numbers for the film. Anyways now film is even struggling to collect 70 crore nett in its lifetime.
So is there anything good after a poor start to last quarter of 2013. There are films, but biggest benefit of poor performance of Besharam might be a blessing in disguise for Boss starring Akshay Kumar. Boss is releasing on 16th October and literally there is no opposition for Boss. Audiences are waiting for a good film to watch in theaters and thirst for that is on. Plus, Boss is having full solo release with no major threat till Krrish 3. Yes, there are releases in between, but that will take a miniscule number of screens from Boss specially in multiplexes. With 16 days free running till Krrish 3 everything going right for the film. Plus, buzz is that Boss is expected to get a big release of 3200-3300 screens all India.
Akshay Kumar has failed to perform to his standard in 2013. He had a big release in OUATIMD (Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara) which had to fight it out with box office hurricane Chennai Express. Many gave bad release schedule for OUATIMD as one of the reason for below par performance. But that is not the case for Boss. Hope Boss delivers and be one of the biggest Hits of the year. Hope Boss lived upto its pre-release expectations and Akshay Kumar sign of 2013 in a high. Yes, now all eyes are on Boss which is about to release in a 9 days time.
