Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Movie Review.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is a biopic based on legendary Indian Athlete Milkha Singh. Film is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and script is written by Prasoon Joshi. Farhan Akhtar plays the role of Milkha Singh in the film.

Coming to story of the film. Film is totally based on Milkha Singh life. During the partition, Singh lost his family members. The story talks about his perseverance as an athlete and also as a courageous human spirit. In childhood Milkha loses both his parents in the riots happened in Pakistan part of Punjab. His father utters Bhaag Milkha Bhaag before dying to Milkha Singh to save his life from riots. Thus, Milkha Singh runs from his native village in Pakistan part to come to India in refugee camp. After huge struggle in early days Milkha Singh joins Army. In his training days people in Army notices his running talent and thus his training starts to become a big athlete. Rest is the story of his struggle, hard work dedication and finally rising to become the biggest Indian Athlete ever and winning many competition and Asian and Commonwealth Gold Medals. And finally shattering the World Record for 400 meter.

Film first half is excellent and there is not a single dull moment. Film second half is also good but could have been shorter in length in places by around 10-15 minutes. This could have helped the film to be below 3 hours in length. But still the 2nd half is impactful. All songs are nice and situational.
Coming to performances. Farhan Akhtar looks total Milkha Singh in the film. He pushes himself beyond limits and train hard to look a total athlete at the age of 39. He portrays Milkha Singh magnificently in the big screen. It is highly difficult to portray an iconic character like Milkha Singh on big screen. For that one have to look raw and strong. Farhan Akhtar does justice to the role and his hard work shows in each single frame. A sure shot award winning performance from his side. And yes, he delivers his career best performance till date!

Divya Dutta gives her career best performance as Elder Sister of Milkha Singh. Whenever she appears on screen she brings tears to eyes. Yograj Singh (Cricketer Yuvraj Singh Father) as India Coach and Pawan Malhotra (Milkha Singh Senior) are absolute delight in the film and both gives first rated performance. Prakash Raj as Trainer delivers a splendid performance. He finally gets a positive role.

Sonam Kapoor has an extended guest appearance. She looks natural and beautiful in the film. She might have a small role in the film, but her role is pivotal as she inspires Milkha to be a good man in life and which inspires him to join Indian Army. Rebecca Breeds and Meesha Shafi (as Perizaad) has small roles but impactful ones.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag runs on two pillars. First is the script of the film. Kudos for Prasoon Joshi for choosing such a inspiring story untold. Second is Farhan Akhtar. After seeing the film it is certain that no actor would have enacted Milkha Singh better than him. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra direction is solid.

Seldom we come across films that inspires generation to come. BMB is one of them. Brawny points for makers for making this biopic. Thanks to this film we got to know the inspiring story of great Milkha Singh. Last year there was Paan Singh Tomar and now Milkha Singh. Next year Mary Kom Biopic is also coming. Hope in future Bollywood makers will look into this trend more and showcase more true inspiring stories.

Verdict - 4/5 and another half for outstanding performance of Farhan Akhtar. Film will have strong impact on audiences and it will also shine well at the Box Office. Must Watch!
