Delhi Belly rocking first day business. Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap poor first day business.

Delhi Belly has taken bumper opening since its for niche audience. It had a very good first day business. It was fourth best opening of 2011 after Ready, Yamla Pagla Deewana and Double Dhamaal. The film grossed around 6.5-7 crore nett approx on its first day.

Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap was very bad on its first day and needs huge turnaround on Saturday and Sunday to have even a small chance of scoring at the box office. The film grossed around 1.6-1.7 crore nett approx on its first day.

Delhi Belly starts with bang. Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap opens poor.

So, finally the junta janardan verdict is out for the opening atleast. Delhi Belly has opened very well this morning with collections on average around 70% at multiplexes and 50-60% at single screens. It is very good opening as the movie is urban centric. First day collection all India will be huge and even mumbai circuits will be bumper. Producer, financer and distributer will laugh way to the bank. Sure shot success as per the start.

Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap had a poor opening at multiplexes of around 10-15%, the single screens were a bit better at around 20-25%. The film will have to have a big turnaround to score at the box office but early reports are not encouraging. The film has better chances at small centres but even here opening is too low and big jump is needed. The film has low costs so should cover costs through non theatrical rights like Satellite and Home Video but will find it very tough to score theatrically at the box office.

Double Dhamaal had rocking first day business. Ready crosses Ghajini all India lifetime business

Double Dhamaal  had a strong first day of around 6.75-7 crore nett as per early estimate. It is the third biggest opening day of the year after Ready and Yamla Pagla Deewana.  The weekend should come out in the 22-24 crore nett range depending on what happens on Saturday and Sunday. A 22-24 crore nett weekend total would be a great result for Double Dhamaal.

Ready in its third week collected 12.5 crore nett. Ready total now reads at 114.6 crore nett. Its set to settle at third position all India lifetime business after 3 Idiots and Dabangg and above Golmaal3 and Ghajini.

Most awaited movie of the Year (Part 3) - Aamir Khan next suspense thriller with Reema Kagti!

He is known as the perfectionist in Bollywood and for good reason. When Aamir Khan decides on making a film or for that matter starring in one, the audiences can be rest assured that the film will not just be an entertainer but will be one of the best when it releases. Post Ghajini and 3 Idiots just imagine the market value of this Khan.

Aamir Khan will take on the bad guys as a Crime Branch officer in Reema Kagti’s film. The film is tentatively titled ' Zakhmi'. Aamir himself confirmed that he found the script, written by Reema and Zoya, really exciting and he is looking forward to working with Ritesh and Farhan once again.

Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor are starring opposite Aamir. Since 3 Idiots has grossed Rs 200 crore nett all India, it remains to be seen how much impact Aamir next suspense thriller makes. Anyways till then Aamir 3 Idiots still is the biggest grosser till date. Other have to do the catching, he just have to maintain it. In today's date brand Aamir Khan is the biggest Indian brand in Indian Box Office and there is no question regarding that.

Double Dhamaal Movie Review - Double Masti, Double Mazaa!

Yet another sequel of a well-liked franchise makes it to cineplexes; this one's helmed by Indra Kumar, the King of Melodrama. The challenge evidently lies in making DOUBLE DHAMAAL far more engaging, compelling and amusing than the first in this series. Right from DIL, his directorial debut, to DHAMAAL, his last outing, Indra Kumar has integrated a generous dose of light moments in all his films, irrespective of the genre. And he's got it right most of the times!

The four jokers [Arshad, Riteish, Javed, Aashish] reunite to cause a comic riot in the much-anticipated follow-up DOUBLE DHAMAAL. DHAMAAL was a laugh-riot and was, in fact, one of the earlier films that gave an impetus to the trend of attempting madcap entertainers.
A word of caution, though. It's outrageous and ridiculous... yet extremely funny and hugely entertaining. As we are well aware, the sole motive of a motion picture of the DOUBLE DHAMAAL variety is to entertain the viewer. Such nutty escapades are not fashioned to appease or mollify a miniscule minority of those viewers who are not in sync with the sensibilities and receptivity of a majority of moviegoers. DOUBLE DHAMAAL is also not for those who loathe and abominate desi masala movies and label them 'brain dead' or 'cheesy, low-brow humor'. All Time Blockbusters like DABANGG, GOLMAAL 3, even 3 IDIOTS and GHAJINI and more recently READY were not spared by the skeptics, but the audience mandate proved the inflexible cynics wrong and how! Very evidently, DOUBLE DHAMAAL is targeted at the massive number of spectators who relish zany capers.
Packed with hilarious moments, amusing gags, witty one-liners and uproarious situational comedy, DOUBLE DHAMAAL lives up to its name and is in a league and genre of its own. It's double the fun and double the guffaws this time. The humor here is poles apart when compared to the MUNNABHAI or GOLMAAL series, yet the objective of each of those films has been to woo lovers of desi masala movies.

Amul ad for Delhi Belly's DK Bose

The utterly butterly Amul gets inspired by Delhi Belly. The photo of the latest Amul ad, says, 'Kha Kha Amul Roz, Amul Roz, Kha!' with sketches of the cast of Imran Khan's upcoming film 'Delhi Belly' and a caption calling them the 'The Big Bose of Butter'.
The bold, youth-centric film, 'Delhi Belly' is slated to be released on July 1. Imran Khan plays the lead role in 'in the film and the song 'Bhag DK Bose' has already struck a chord and is topping the popularity charts.
Their last ad was a touching tribute to slain journalist Jyotirmoy Dey an ad that said "Karo sahi, daro nahin" (do not be afraid to do the right thing).
The Amul ads have often been described as one of the best Indian Advertising concepts because of their humour, with puns being its forte, and their penchant of picking up on current events to bring home a poin

Most awaited movie of the Year (Part 2) - Shahrukh Khan 'Ra One' and 'Don2'! Whopping 300 crore riding on these two movies.

King Khan is back and back with bang. Shahrukh's two most awaited movies are to be released in 2011, Ra One and Don 2. A whopping 300 crore is riding on SRK's shoulders for just these two movies.

The buzz in the trade is that Reliance Big Pictures has bought the rights of SRK’s Don 2 from Excel Entertainment for Rs 125 crore. There is also talk in the industry of Eros International buying Shah Rukh's home-production Ra.One for a whopping Rs 175 crore.

A leading distributor says, Shah Rukh rocks. He is still one of the top three stars in this country. His film guarantees good returns. Yes, Reliance Big Pictures has bought Don 2 for an amount which is definitely more than Rs 100 crore. But I think that Shah Rukh's deal with Eros International on Ra.One could be a funding proposal, which implies that Shah Rukh can still sell the film to other buyers. Even Ra1 has fetched the highest price ever for satellite rights of 35 crore just edging out the 33 crore figure for Three Idiots.

Phew! That’s a lot of money riding on one man, imagine the pressure!

Ra.One is an science-fiction superhero film directed by Anubhav Sinha. The film, which features Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal. According to SRK, the film's title stands for "Random Access: Version One" as well as the mythological character Ravana.

Don 2: The Chase Continues is an action thriller film directed by Farhan Akhtar. It is the sequel to the 2006 film, Don: The Chase Begins Again, which itself is a remake of the 1978 film Don. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani and Om Puri, reprising their roles from the previous film, with Lara Dutta and Kunal Kapoor playing new characters while Hrithik Roshan has a cameo appearance respectively.

Reason for RA One and Don2 as most awaited movies of the year.

First Reason, SRK himself. After My Name is Khan and Rab Ne Banadi Jodi, its been long waiting. Both were clean hits and Overseas Blockbusters. People are dying to see him in new Avatars.

Second Reason, time has changed. At todays time Salman Khan and Aamir Khan has marched ahead of SRK in terms of Box Office Business. So, its time to prove lots of points. But no one can deny the fact that King Khan still is in good competition with other two Khans, even if their fan following is ominous now.

Third Reason, is astronomical price Ra One and Don 2 is fetching from all markets (Theatrical, Satellite, Music, Overseas). Now lets see where Shahrukh's Ra One and Don 2 stands in the fight with Salman's Bodyguard.

Part 3 will be updated soon.

Ready for Double Dhamaal?

Ready has bought life into the industry again with its huge business all over. The industry is looking for a big month in July with likes of Delhi Belly, Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap, Zindagi Mile Na Dobara and Singham but a huge surprise may come this week in the form of Double Dhamaal this week.

As per trade, the film is expected to a notch up around 15-17 crore over its first weekend , but my gut instinct is it may cross 20+ crore weekend business. As the film has more of an ensemble cast rather than a huge cast, this is probably why the trade feels it will not put good weekend business.

On the other side the film is hot amongst exhibitors as Ready exhausts its run and Dhamaal released in 2007 did very well after a slow start.

Double Dhamaal may surprise all in the trade and do business of over 20 crore nett plus on day one. It may also be the surprise of the season and put a big lifetime number even with competition every week in July.

Most awaited movie of the Year (Part 1) - Salman Khan 'Bodyguard'!

Though Shahrukh's Ra One and DON2 are slated to release in 2011. Also Aamir's next thriller is slated for 2011 end release. Still I feel Salman's Bodyguard is the most awaited movie of the year.

Salman was always the darling of the masses. The kind of numbers he has been getting with Dabangg and Ready are proof of his immense popularity. This has further enhanced the stardom of Salman who is now being seen as consistently bankable.

Now lets come to the point. Why Bodyguard is the most awaited movie of the year.?

First reason, Salman's hattrick with blockbusters Wanted, Dabangg and now Ready. He is in the best phase of his life. All his movies the crashing box-office records.
Second reason, its shocking with the theatrical price being offered to Bodyguard is that while earlier films got enviable amounts for worldwide theatrical, satellite, music and home video combined, in the case of Bodguard, the 75 cr price is only for India (theatrical). So, there is a clear jump in terms of the price being offered.
Third and biggest reason is Salman itself. Just imagine the last Eid releases were Wanted and Dabangg. Now Bodyguard is the next Eid Release. Eid and Salman combination is just invincible. Plus Kareena Kapoor, 5 days weekend, masala entertainer. God knows what box office number will be safe. One thing is for sure if the film content is good it will surely break Dabangg opening record by huge margin and it is a real threat to Aamir's 3 Idiots life time business. Till then wait and watch. My next 2 columns on most waited movies of the year are soon coming.

Gadar Ek Prem Katha: 10 Years On and the Gadar continues

Today (June 15th) will be tenth anniversary of the release of Gadar Ek Prem Katha which was a box office phenomena and probably sold more tickets at the theatres in India than any film in history apart from Sholay (1975). This was mainly due to the unparalleled  business it gathered from B and C centres across India. The reactions by the public at the theatres where the film was playing had not been seen before and also have not been seen since.

The film sold around 4 crore tickets at theatres in its run while films like Three Idiots and Dabangg are around 2.5 crore. Thats 60% more and these films are also amongst the biggest hits of all time.In Mumbai city which forms a big segment of all India business the film grossed around 7 crore nett as compared to the 12 crore nett of the highest grosser of that time Hum Aapke Hain Kaun but this 5 crore shortfall and more was made up from B and C centres where tickets were priced much lower than Mumbai city.

Gadar Ek Prem Katha released on 15th June 2001 left the trade stunned. There had been mega blockbusters just a few years back like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge but these were small releases and prints increased gradually but with Gadar it was a full blown release of 350 prints and never had anybody seen collections remain this high for such a big release.

The first week opened to around all India 7.25 crore nett collections without West Bengal where the film was not released. The film had a massive release but prints had to be added in week two due to demand and with West Bengal seeing a release the collections went up to 8.25 crore nett. The third week was 7.50 crore nett. In its tenth week it was still bringing in around 2.50 crore nett with most of its prints still in play. Never had a film with such a big release held up this strongly.

In its 10th week the film had a billing of 75 lakhs nett in Delhi/UP and this was higher than what most films did in their second week at that time. In fact a hit film which was released alongside, Lagaan had that 75 lakhs nett billing in the third week of its run. At many centres, it still holds lifetime theatre records ten years after release.

Even today, Gadar finds it's way to a theatre a for re-run at some theatre every month. It's a favourite with exhibitors in UP, Bihar, MP and Rajasthan who mainly do re-runs at their theatres. The other major hits released in that period like Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Mohabbatein, Lagaan and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham hardly ever get a repeat run probably because they do not have the same repeat value for the masses.

Salman Khan - The Sleeping Lion, woken up and roaring like never before!

Salman Khan is Bollywood's original bad boy. But two decades after his debut — and debacles—his original image has paled in front of his newly acquired status—that of a phenomenon and the most sought after actor in Hindi cinema. Earlier known for giving flops after mega hits, now Salman Khan can do no wrong. His latest hit "Ready" may not match the first week collection of his "Dabangg", but Salman's message is loud and clear—he's got his act together after crossing the age of 40, a threshold that most actors dread. Salman Khan is the only actor in bollywood who has delivered 4 all time blockbusters (ATBB) - Maine Pyar Kya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Kuch Kuch Hota Hain, Dabangg and Ready closing in for the 5th. He has also the enviable list of Blockbusters and Superhits in his lineups. No other actor even come close to him in term of spinning money in the box office except Aamir Khan's 3 ATBB (Raja Hindustani, Ghajini, 3 Idiots) and Shahrukh Khan's 2 ATBB (Diwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai).

Ready 10 days business - 90 crore. Havoc!

Ready has grossed nearly 90 crores in 10 days as per early estimate. Actual may be more also. Creating havoc at the Box Office. Salman Khan mania is still ruling. Wanted, then Dabangg and now Ready, its a hatrick of sorts for him, three years three blockbusters.

Ready grossed around 20 crore nett plus as per early estimates over its second weekend. It was all thanks to a mega Sunday (2nd Sunday) where the film has grossed around 9.25 crore nett as per early estimates. Friday (2nd Friday) was around 4.50 crore and Saturday (2nd Saturday) around the 6.50 crore nett mark. The jump on 2nd Sunday was just out of this world.

Many big budget films will even envy to touch Ready 2nd Sunday business. Word of mouth is working big time for Ready.

The 1st Sunday also showed a huge jump but 2nd Sunday saw an even bigger one. The huge business on Sunday means families are coming out for the film in a big way as normally Sunday jumps are not this big even for mega blockbusters like Three Idiots and Dabangg.

Ready is trending good, so anything is possible in coming days.

Ready rocked 1st Week. 3rd biggest all time opening!

Ready has grossed a huge 68.5+ crore nett in week one as per early estimates. The film remained rock steady on the weekdays and is now settled for a big three week run until the release of Double Dhamaal.

Ready is one of those rare films with complete universal success from multiplexes to single screens and from the urban metros to small C centres.  'Ready' is the No 3 biggest opener, but No. 1 opener in non-festive period.

Updated TOP FIVE Biggest Opener of the Week:

1. Dabangg - 81 crore.
2. 3 Idiots - 80 crore. (Including Thursday Premier show)
3. Ready - 68.5 crore (Early estimate, actual may be higher also)
4. Golmaal3 - 67 crore.
5. Ghajini - 64 crore (8 Days).

Ready is the next Blockbuster for Salman Khan, Weekdays business Rock Steady!

Ready continues its dream run at the box office with a steady collections on Tuesday. The early estimate for business on Tuesday is around 6.25-6.50 crore nett. Monday is around 8 crore nett. This kind of business in weekend is also generally very good.

The film has now grossed over 56 crore nett in just five days. The week is probably heading for 65-66 crore nett business. The business is rock steady in all the major circuits.

Ready is a certain Super Hit and weekend business will decide if it emerges a Blockbuster. The film has put life into the industry as for 6 months there had only been one decent grosser in Yamla Pagla Deewana and with Ready the hopes go up for the busy 6 months ahead.

The opening weekend and Monday, Tuesday numbers clearly indicate that READY has been embraced by the paying public. That's what matters at the end of the day, isn't it? The one question to the naysayers (intelligent critics & a negligible minority) is, what do people expect from masala films? Non-stop entertainment, right? In this case, did Anees Bazmee or Salman Khan ever claim that the viewer would be served an UDAAN or a STANLEY KA DABBA or a TAARE ZAMEEN PE or a GUZAARISH? The world knew it was a remake of a Telugu film and many people even knew what its storyline was. So why this hullabaloo about the film not having an interesting story/screenplay? READY is a fun ride and has to be viewed from that perspective.

If the reports of READY were terrible, the business would've crumbled on Saturday itself. And Sunday wouldn't be strong either. But READY reported bigger figures on Sunday than Friday and Saturday, which proves that the word of mouth is on the positive side. Let's not forget, no film can claim to have the mandate of the universal audience. But the one thing we need to learn is to respect the mandate of the junta. They know better!

Well, with a great start on one hand and no major opposition in its next two weeks, READY is expected to rule the box-office for sure. As for its economics and where it stands, well, let's await its second weekend figures to see how big a success it is.

Diwali got bigger - 'Rascals' vs 'Ra.One' this Diwali!

Diwali just got bigger. A few months ago, the makers of RA.ONE took the crucial decision of releasing the film during the festival of lights. Now here's the latest: The producers of RASCALS have also decided to release their film in Diwali. Yes, the David Dhawan-directed film, which stars Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn in the lead, will face the mighty RA.ONE in the festive week. In fact, the producers of RASCALS were unsure whether to clash with a mighty opponent like RA.ONE or arrive in another week. But the 5-day weekend is too tempting to miss and also, two films can easily co-exist during the Diwali week. Perhaps, these two reasons may have prompted the producers of RASCAL to release their film during the rewarding period.

Shah Rukh has an impeccable track record as far as Diwali is concerned. DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE, KUCH KUCH HOTA HAIN, MOHABBATEIN, VEER-ZAARA, DON and OM SHANTI OM were released in the festive week and each of them proved money spinners at the box-office. Ajay Devgn too has been very lucky as far as Diwali goes. GOLMAAL RETURNS and ALL THE BEST have proven hits, so RASCALS could be a hat-trick. Also, it's not the first time an SRK starrer is clashing with a David Dhawan film. Diwali 1998 witnessed the release of SRK's KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI and David Dhawan's BADE MIYA CHOTE MIYAN and both had emerged big hits then.

Ready records historic opening weekend business

Are you ready for 'Ready'. And Junta gave the verdict with outstanding opening of Ready for friday, saturday and sunday. Collections are simply out of this world. As reported the early estimate is coming 41 crore ( fri - 13.15cr, sat - 12.75cr and sun - 15+cr )  or maybe more. It is the biggest opening weekend business for non-festive season and second biggest opening weekend all time.
Salman Khan star power is back with bang. Classes and masses all accepted the movie with big heart (except few critics, who gave average review). We all know that Salman is the darling of masses, but after Wanted, Dabangg and now Ready he is the undisputed darling of the classes.
Now it remains to be seen, after earth shattering opening, how will be the business of weekdays and rest. Its already the biggest hit of the year, just wait and watch, where it will stand in the biggest hit of all time.

Highest opening weekend numbers:

1. Dabangg - 48.82 crore.
2. Ready - 41 crore (early estimate).
3. 3 idiots - 37.98 crore.
4. Tees Maar Khan - 37.11 crore.
5. Golmaal 3 - 34.81 crore.

As report came in Monday is also trending huge for Ready.

DK Bose is the new Anthem

Trust Aamir Khan to do things differently. The star organised a first ever success party for a song - "D.K. Bose" from his upcoming film Delhi Belly that his wife Kiran Rao says has become an anthem.
"We are happy that people liked this song so much. It has become an anthem in such a short span. It was an idea that came from the brain of our writer Akshat Verma and then Amitabh Bhattacharya wrote the lyrics and Ram Sampath composed it brilliantly," Kiran told reporters.

The party was attended by director Abhinay Deo, co-producer Ronnie Screwvala, the cast Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapoor and other members of the film.
The night also saw composer Ram Sampath playing the unplugged versions of the film's songs, including "Nakkadwale disco" and "Bedardi raja" along with his band, ending with a splendid performance of "D.K. Bose" with Imran, Vir and Kunal providing backing vocals.
"When I had heard this song, I knew that it will be liked, but I never thought that it will become such a rage. I'm happy with the concept of a party for the success of this song," said Imran.
A bold, youth-centric film, "Delhi Belly" is slated to be released July 1.
